(Harrisburg)  —  The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for south central Pennsylvania through 5am Tuesday morning.

Meteorologist John Banghoff, with the National Weather Service in State College, says this snowmaker is really a tale of two storms, one from the west and one that came up the coast.

“The first one is going to be generally light snow on Sunday and then sort of a second wave moves in as we get into Monday, and depending on where exactly that system tracks, that will dictate where the band of heaviest snowfall is, how strong the snowfall rates are and what the realized accumulation is across Pennsylvania,” Banghoff said.

While the snow today is expected to be light and only accumulate a few inches, Banghoff says the main event will be during the day Monday when snow could be heavy at times.

Winds tonight and tomorrow, gusting to 25mph, could cause blowing and drifting snow.

The slow-moving system is expected to be out of the region by late Tuesday morning.

The National Weather Service says total snow accumulation for the midstate will be 8 to 12 inches.
