2 more Montgomery County residents test positive for coronavirus, bringing total Pa. cases to 6

(Harrisburg) — Health officials in Pennsylvania have announced two more positive tests of the new coronavirus, making a total of six in the commonwealth so far, as one school announced it would close for the next three weeks.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health said the two new cases announced Sunday are in adults in Montgomery County, in addition to two other Montgomery County cases announced Saturday.

All four are described as having mild symptoms and are in isolation at home. The two individuals cited Sunday tested presumptive positive after traveling outside the country, officials said.

County officials said they are an adult male and an adult female who live in the same household in Lower Merion. The two other Montgomery County individuals were in a part of the United States where the virus is present.

Germantown Academy in Montgomery County will close its campus through March 29, the end of spring break. The school informed parents of the more than 1,000 students of the decision Sunday, saying that one of the people from the county who tested positive is a family member of a Germantown Academy student.

The state Department of Health is not saying how many samples it is testing or how many people it is monitoring under quarantine.

On Friday, officials confirmed the first two cases, one adult in Delaware County who traveled to Boston and one in northeastern Pennsylvania’s Wayne County who traveled extensively in Europe. Both adults were described as mild cases of people in isolation in their homes. In those cases, at least three medical personnel who treated them have also been quarantined, newspapers have reported.

Meanwhile, the Central Bucks School District announced that five schools abruptly closed on Friday will reopen Monday. Bucks County officials said people who came into contact with an out-of-state resident who tested positive for COVID-19 have all tested negative for the virus.

Officials have said they expect more Pennsylvania cases in the coming days and weeks.
