Possibly severe storms heading for midstate
(Harrisburg) — A line of possibly severe thunderstorms is heading for the midstate this evening.
The National Weather Service in State College said storms with wind speed up to 60 miles per hour and hail one-inch across are probable.
Forecaster David Martin said the storms are moving east across the state.
“Behind that, a cold front lags behind that line and if you get additional heating there could be additional storms into this evening,” he said.
Scattered supercell storms will also bring the possibility of tornadoes.
“The wind shear [Thursday] does favor the possiblity of some of the storms trying to rotate and form tornadoes,” Martin said.
One twister with top wind speeds of 105 miles per hour touched down Sunday evening in northern Lancaster County.
Martin said while last summer saw heavy rains, the pattern so far this spring is favoring more intense storms with the potential to create tornadoes.
