Snow shifted to sleet and freezing rain for most of central Pennsylvania Thursday evening, but another 1 to 3 inches of snow is possible early Friday as the storm system continues to push north through the region.

Precipitation will continue to fall overnight. The National Weather Service in State College is forecasting a mixture of rain, freezing rain, sleet and snow until about 4 a.m.

A chance of snow remains until about 7 a.m. in the Harrisburg and Lancaster areas, while precipitation will likely end earlier in southcentral Pennsylvania cities including Chambersburg and York.

Meteorologist Aaron Tyburski said earlier today that temperatures are about 10 to 15 degrees cooler than the average for this time of year. That trend of colder temperatures is expected to last through early next week.
