Joyce wins in 13th Congressional District race

(Harrisburg) — People in Pennsylvania’s 13th Congressional District have a new Republican representative.
Dr. John Joyce — a dermatologist and first-time candidate from Blair County — won the congressional seat with just over 70 percent of the vote.
He beat out moderate Democrat Brent Ottaway, a college communications professor.
The conservative district stretches from Westmoreland County in southwestern Pennsylvania to the midstate and covers all of Franklin and Adams counties and part of Cumberland County.
Registered Republicans in the district outnumber Democrats nearly two to one.
Before the state Supreme Court redrew the congressional map, the district was known as the 9th and held by a political dynasty for 46 years; first by Republican Congressman Bud Shuster, then by his son Bill, also a Republican. Bill Shuster did not seek reelection this year.
Joyce received an endorsement from Bill Shuster and had a much larger campaign war chest than Ottaway. He loaned his campaign more than $900,000 dollars.
