(Harrisburg) — About two weeks after the release of a grand jury report detailing widespread child sexual abuse and cover-up in Pennsylvania’s Roman Catholic dioceses, the Diocese of Harrisburg has created a new public relations position.

Rachel Bryson has been hired to the newly created position of Executive Director for Public Relations.

In a statement, Bishop Ronald Gainer said the diocese is “constantly looking for ways to better and more effectively communicate with parishioners and the general public,” and the hire is part of that ongoing effort.

Bryson comes to the dioccese with ten years of communications experience and most recently served as communications director for Cumberland County.

As executive director, Bryson will be responsible for developing and implementing the communications initiatives in the Diocesan Strategic Plan, executing all strategic communications and media relations, expanding the use of digital media, and overseeing the editorial content, news operations, product development and business affairs of The Catholic Witness.

She is a member of Good Shepherd parish in Camp Hill.
