State Senate approves telemedicine bill
(Harrisburg) — Under legislation approved this week in the state Senate, patients would no longer have to be same location as their doctors, or even the same state for that matter.
The bill allows for the practice of telemedicine, the ability for doctors to be connected electronically with their patients.
Physicians and other health professionals delivering telemedicine services would still be required to follow standard licensure and medical practice laws and requirements in Pennsylvania, this according to Senator Elder Vogel who sponsored the bill.
“It may not be the option for everyone, but being able to treat patients from their home, give valuable medical support and information and provide service to more rural areas is fundamental to our healthcare delivery system,” he said.
Vogel says if this bill becomes law, Pennsylvania would join 16 other states which currently provide some form of telemedicine, which he says can save time, money, and even lives.
