(South Lebanon) — A rollover crash involving a school bus Monday afternoon resulted in only a minor injury to one student, according to South Lebanon Township police.

“The student was complaining of minor pain and was transported to WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital to be checked out as a precaution,” South Lebanon Police Chief Michael Lesher said.

The student was one of three children on the bus at the time of the crash, which occurred at 2:15 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Birch Road and Metro Drive. The other two children were the bus driver’s children, according to Lesher.

A pickup truck towing a piece of construction equipment was eastbound on Birch Road and its driver slowed down, but did not stop at the intersection.

As the pickup truck continued into the intersection it struck the right side of the school bus, which was westbound on Metro Drive at the time of the crash, causing it to rollover onto its left side.

The driver was the only occupant in the pickup truck, and he was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.

“We get complaints about stop sign violations at this intersection, so we had an officer posted here west of the intersection monitoring the intersection,” Lesher said. “He actually witnessed the crash.”

The bus driver and the three children were the only occupants on the bus at the time of the crash.

No other injuries were reported.

The names of the operators of the vehicles were not released at the scene of the crash, and Lesher was not aware of which school district the bus was operating from or which bus contract company it belonged to.

Lesher said a full news release with more information would be issued after the investigation was completed.

Hebron and Friendship fire companies, fire police and the First Aid and Safety Patrol assisted police on the scene.
