Parts of midstate see more than a foot of snow & a record-setter in Hbg.

(Undated) — The fourth major storm in three weeks has dumped more than a foot of snow in parts of the midstate — and it was a record setter.

The National Weather Service in State College says Harrisburg set a record on a March 21st with 11.9 inches — breaking the old mark of 7.5 set in 1964.

Now, the clean up begins.

Schools across the region have either delayed the start of classes or closed for the day.

Governor Tom Wolf says PennDOT crews are out in force clearing highways and secondary roadways of snow and ice.

“We”ve got to make sure we do everything we can to keep safe,” Governor Tom Wolf said. “So when the crews are out and you have to travel, watch out for them. Keep a safe distance from the trucks…the vehicles.”

Meteorologist Aaron Tyburski is with the National Weather Service in State College. He says southcentral Pennsylvania were hit the hardest.

“York County, we’ve seen anywhere from eight to 10 inches of snow. In Adams County, near Gettysburg, around a foot of snow,” he said. “Back into Franklin County, around Greencastle, just under 14 inches of snow.”

Other areas with double digit snow falls were Adams County’s Franklin Township with 13.5 inches, the city of York with 12.7 inches, Lancaster County’s Rapho Township with 11.5 and 10.5 in both Dauphin County’s Londonderry Township and New Bloomfield in Perry County.

Airlines across the northeast, canceled more than four-thousand flights yesterday.
