PennDOT and PSP team up to teach traffic law

(Harrisburg) — PennDOT and the PA State Police are joining forces for a new campaign aimed at informing motorists about some of the state’s lesser-known traffic laws. 

Last week marked Highway Safety Law Awareness Week, with social media being used to raise awareness of some of the state’s less publicized traffic laws.

One of them, according to PA State Police spokesman Ryan Tarkowski, prohibits drivers from using listening devices for a tablet or a smartphone.

“The earbuds that go in your iphone or ipod that completely block out your hearing,.. those are not permitted.  To be on the safe side you have to be able to hear the traffic that’s going on around you, the signals from emergency vehicles and the horns from other vehicles if there is an emergency.  We want you to be able to hear when you’re behind the wheel,” he said.
