(Undated) — Central York School District is closed today because of a direct and specific threat, according to police and a statement on the district’s Facebook page Tuesday night.

Springettsbury Township Police had a strong presence at the high school on Tuesday because of a potential threat that was made on Monday, according to a news release from police.

While school was underway, “a very disturbing threat was made recognizing the strong police presence,” the release states. The message indicated they would target violence toward the middle and elementary schools.

District personnel responded rapidly and law enforcement was present at all schools, the news release states.

“We currently are unable to link yesterday’s threat to the threats made today. Based on the direct and specific threat, I have recommended Central York School District close tomorrow,” Chief Daniel Stump states in the news release.

Police say a task force has been convened to investigate the threats.

The task force includes Springettsbury police, the York County District Attorney’s Office, the York County Detectives, Northern York County Regional Police, other local agencies and federal agencies, the news release states.

“Every single tip has been investigated and we have several persons of interest at this time,” the news release states.

Police are asking parents to review their children’s text and Snapchat messages for any possible information about who sent the messages. They also should ask their children what they know, the news release states.

“We need everyone’s help in making sure our kids can go to school safely,” Stump said in the release.
