(Harrisburg) — This year’s flu season is turning out to be much more serious than expected in Pennsylvania.

The state Health Department reports that since October over 35 thousand cases have been reported in Pennsylvania,.. 9 thousand in just the last week,.. and 65 flu related fatalities.

Acting Pennsylvania Health Secretary Dr. Rachel Levine says this strain of flu is severe.

“It is predominantly Influenza-A and a sub-type called H3N2, wghich can cause particularly severe flu symptoms.  We’re seeing an increasing number of cases week by week.   It’s tuning out to be a very significant flu season,” Levine said.

Health officials say it’s not too late to get a flu shot and if you come down with the flu, limit contact with others to cut down on the spread.
