(Harrisburg) — A group that deals with problem gamblers is weighing in following Thursday’s final legislative passage of a bill expanding gambling in Pennsylvania.

The Council on Compulsive Gambling of Pennsylvania remains neutral on the gambling expansion legislation, but Chief Operating Officer Josh Ercole says the council hopes Governor Tom Wolf will keep several things in mind as he considers the bill.

“At a minimum, to make sure that there are protections that kind of follow along with the National Council on Problem Gambling’s recommendations,.. both for the online option as well as for the stand alone satellite casino’s,” Ercole said.

Should the governor sign the bill, Ercole says the council also wants to make sure strong safeguards are in place to protect young people from accessing online gambling sites and that treatment services are available for people with gambling problems.
