(Harrisburg) — One of the midstate’s major health systems has officially taken control of four hospitals.

PinnacleHealth says regulators have approved its acquisition of Carlisle Regional Medical Center, Heart of Lancaster Regional Medical Center, Lancaster Regional Medical Center, and Memorial Hospital of York.

The purchase price was not disclosed.

All four hospitals were previously owned by the for-profit Community Health Systems.

In a statement, PinnacleHealth’s CEO Phillip Guarneschelli says the move marks an exciting new chapter for the organization.

However, studies have shown that hospital consolidation leads to higher prices for patients over time.
