Three GOP senators press regulators on troubled abortion facility in midstate

(Harrisburg) — Three Republican state senators want regulators to explain why they haven’t pulled the license for an abortion facility in Harrisburg that has been repeatedly cited for problems.

As WITF reported last week, regulators found more than 10 violations at Hillcrest Women’s Health Center in Harrisburg earlier this year.

According to an inspection report, Hillcrest didn’t have a OBGYN board-certified doctor on duty or required nursing staff, among other issues.

Senator John DiSanto, who represents Harrisburg, signed the letter, along with Senate Pro Tem Joe Scarnati and Bob Mensch from Montgomery County.

They say its deeply troubling that the Health Department allowed Hillcrest to stay open, and gave it six months to fix the issues.

The state says Hillcrest has since corrected the problems.
