Wolf says PA is not ready for legal recreational marijuana

(Harrisburg) — Governor Tom Wolf says he doesn’t agree with the state Auditor General’s recent call for legalizing recreational marijuana in Pennsylvania as a way to help solve the commonwealth’s fiscal woes.
Auditor General Eugene DePasquale estimates Pennsylvania could raise $200 million from taxing recreational marijuana.
Governor Tom Wolf says he doesn’t know how DePasquale settled on that number, but in the face of a $3 billion structural deficit, it wouldn’t make much of a difference.
He tells Radio PA’s “Ask the Governor” program the commonwealth should continue its focus on the roll-out of medical marijuana.
“I am for decriminalizing the holding of small amounts of recreational marijuana,” he said. “But, I am not for legalizing recreational marijuana because I don’t think we are ready for that yet in Pennsylvania.”
Wolf adds the Trump Administration has signaled it won’t turn a blind eye to recreational marijuana the way the Obama Administration did, so the state should hold off on steps toward full legalization.
