New health care collaboration launches in midstate
(Harrisburg) — A major health insurer is launching a collaboration with a midstate health system.
Capital BlueCross and Lancaster General Health are creating an Accountable Care Organization, with an eye toward cutting costs and improving patient outcomes.
Capital BlueCross says patients will get “enhanced” access to care, and reminders of services, as well as encounter a better health care experience.
They have had mixed results across the country.
In 2015, 31 percent of ACOs received a bonus for their savings and also had a higher likelihood of improving quality.
But, it often comes down to individual programs.
Capital BlueCross says it first launched an ACO in 2011, and has seen higher patient satisfaction scores, while beating the regional average for care of some chronic diseases.
