Pa. plans $1.5M in spending to ease drug addiction for 150 people
(Harrisburg) — The state says 150 people released from jail will receive help in fighting their drug addiction.
The Department of Corrections is awarding $1.5 million to county agencies to provide medication assisted treatment.
Governor Wolf says the program will help those who leave jail become productive citizens once they are free.
Medication assisted treatment can include therapies like methadone or suboxone, which, when linked with intensive counseling, can be used to gradually wean someone off opioids.
In the midstate, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin and Schuylkill counties are each slated to receive grants.
The state says about two-thirds of its inmates have substance abuse problems.
