Midstate counties expect high voter turnout

(Undated) — Election offices around the midstate are preparing for a busy day at the polls.
Eva Weyrich is the voter registrar for Juniata County. She says despite the fact emotions are running high in the presidential race, she expects voters will be civil.
“This is a pretty high-profile election, so I think we’ll have a pretty high turnout,” says Weyrich. “I think people will behave themselves, we’re a small county.”
Nikki Suchanic is the director of Elections and Voter Registration for York County, and says she also hopes to see people be polite to each other.
“These are our neighbors and friends,” she says. “We live in a great country– a great democracy. Regardless of your political views you should be able to cast your ballot how you choose, free of intimidation.”
The polls open at 7am this morning and close tonight at 8pm. Many election offices say they’re fielding common questions from voters about whether or not their registered, and asking about where their polling place is.
“I expect turnout to be steady and heavy at times,” says Randall Wenger, Chief Clerk of Lancaster County’s board of elections. “Normally in Lancaster 70 percent of our registered voters turn out during a presidential year.”
