Sunbury tries to get control of camera system after contractor vanishes

(Sunbury) — A midstate city is trying to get a handle on a camera system that is not living up to its promise.

The mess involves a contractor who was hired to install it despite facing felony theft charges.

That contractor – Aaron Nigro of Westmoreland County – reportedly stopped returning phone calls from Sunbury officials in June.

He installed the camera system in the city in Northumberland County, and was pulling images for the Sunbury police.

But Councilwoman Beth Kremer says no one can get a hold of him, and only Nigro knows how to operate the system.

So, she says they’re trying to block his access.

“He probably could but I doubt that he is. I don’t think there’s anything going on in Sunbury worth going out of your way for. It has to be stopped, so that has to be the end of it,” says Kremer.

Kremer says other Sunbury officials are working to find another contractor who can fix the problems with the camera system and lock Nigro out.

“We definitely want to get him blocked out of the system, because he hasn’t returned our calls. He was a very nice person and easy to work with, but he’s really fallen down on it. I’m not really sure why,” she adds.

Sunbury paid for the camera system using a $200,000 dollar federal grant.

Meanwhile, Nigro has pleaded not guilty to felony theft charges in a separate case.
