Three midstate regions hit all-time highs for jobs
(Harrisburg) — The state’s unemployment rate has been climbing in recent months, and now sits at 5.6%.
But there is good news for the midstate.
The Harrisburg-Carlisle region added 6,400 jobs in June, which pushed it to an all-time high of nearly 340,000 jobs.
The York-Hanover and Reading areas both saw healthy increases too, helping them reach highs never seen before as well.
The seasonally adjusted numbers come from the state Department of Labor and Industry.
In the other two major metro areas – Lancaster and Lebanon, job increases were slight – about a .5% in each region.
Preliminary data for July shows most counties have lower unemployment rates than the statewide number, which sits at 5.6%.
Statewide, jobs have been increasing dramatically in two different industries: education and health services and leisure and hospitality.
