The heat is on

(Harrisburg) — It’s called a heat dome and forecasters say it’s responsible for some of the hottest temperatures of the year so far in the Northeast,.. including Pennsylvania. 

Experts say the heat dome is a high pressure system that traps hot air underneath resulting in extremely hot and humid conditions. 

It baked a good portion of the Midwest this week with high temperatures in excess of 100-degrees. 

Now it’s affecting Pennsylvania for at least the weekend with temperatures forecast in the mid to upper 90’s. 

Young children, the elderly and people with respiratory problems are most at risk when exposed to this kind of heat, but health officials are warning everyone not to overdo it outdoors. 

It can result in dehydration and heat stroke. 

They say make sure to drink plenty of fluids and find shade or air conditioning as much as possible.
