Summer food service program for PA kids

(Harrisburg) — The state Department of Education is administering a federal program benefiting needy Pennsylvania children. 

The Summer Food Service Program provides nutritious meals to children during the months when they’re not in school.

Recipients are mainly those eligible for the federal free or reduced-price school lunch program.

Education Department spokesperson Nicole Reigelman says meal service sites are set up in a number of locations throughout the state.

“Organizations can sponsor the school food service program and it can be at libraries across the state, it can be at schools, it can be at community centers,.. anyplace where students will congregate.  They are required to actually come and have the meals,” she said.

Over 7-million meals were served in Pennsylvania last year.
