Pa. gets grant to study effectiveness of opioid addiction treatment
(Harrisburg) — Pennsylvania is in line for an $82,000 grant to research the best ways to treat people suffering from opioid addiction.
The money comes from J-PAL North America, which is based at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
The Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab selected five winners out of 25 applicants.
Governor Tom Wolf says he’s looking forward to meeting with the lab’s researchers to learn lessons about supporting the fight against the opioid epidemic.
Pennsylvania’s study will focus on how effective medication assisted treatment like methadone is in helping people recover from substance abuse disorder.
Nearly 2,500 people were killed by drug overdoses in 2014.
