(Harrisburg) — Tourism continues to pump billions of dollars into Pennsylvania’s economy.

2014 is the most recent year tourism statistics have been finalized for Pennsylvania and it was a banner year.

Nearly $40 billion in spending by about 193 million international and domestic travelers, both record numbers cited by Carrie Lepore with the Department of Community & Economic Development.

“That’s everything from entertainment, lodging, food, gas; all of those things,” she said.

State Tourism Director Michael Chapaloney says Pennsylvania has many attractive destinations for international travelers.

“They know Philadelphia, the amish in Lancaster, Hershey of course, and the Pocono Mountains are really key destinations for international travelers,” Chapaloney said.

Overall tourism statistics also include numbers from Pennsylvanians taking daytrips within the Commonwealth’s borders.
