Wolf calls for anti-discrimination legislation in Pa.

(Harrisburg) — Governor Tom Wolf is calling on the General Assembly to take action in the wake of a controversial anti-LGBT law in North Carolina.
Last week, the North Carolina legislature passed a law blocking local governments from enacting any ordinance that bans discrimination in public places based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
Governor Tom Wolf’s spokesman Jeff Sheridan says the governor feels that should be a call to pass anti-discrimination legislation in the commonwealth.
“What North Carolina did last week is simply wrong,” he says. “But equally as troubling is the fact that the Pennsylvania General Assembly has not moved to pass non-discrimmination legislation in the commonwealth that would ensure that all people, regardless of sexual orientation, gender expression and identity, are treated equally under Pennsylvania law.”
Because there isn’t a protection under state law, members of the LGBT community can be denied a job, housing, or even admission to a hospital.
