(Reading) — The owner and operator of a chemical repackaging plant in Reading has agreed to pay a $55,000 fine and donate equipment to a Berks County fire department.

Brenntag Northeast has reached the deal with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency over alleged oil and hazardous waste storage violations.

The company reportedly didn’t conduct proper inspections of tanks, control emissions, or plan for oil spill prevention.

The EPA says the Union Fire Department Number One of Leesport will also get $30,000 in foam, foam hoses and gas detectors to help in fighting any hazardous materials incidents.

Brenntag did not admit guilt in the settlement, but did develop new procedures for handling hazardous waste.
