(York) — A man faces life in prison after pleading guilty in the stabbing death of his pregnant girlfriend in the lobby of a midstate motel four years ago.

Thirty-two-year-old Wilkins Marte-Escano pleaded guilty Wednesday in York County Court to first- and third-degree murder.

Authorities said he stabbed 24-year-old Olga Vascones-Garcia in the chest in front of the couple’s 5-year-old daughter in the lobby of a motel in Manchester Township in March 2012. Prosecutors has been seeking the death penalty.

Authorities said Vascones-Garcia was 19 months pregnant and she and her baby boy died minutes apart after the pre-term child was delivered at a hospital.

Court records indicate that he faces a life term in her death and an additional 20- to 40-year term in the unborn child’s death.
