(Harrisburg) — A special state program will pay for prescription drugs for some people who have been diagnosed with both hepatitis C and H-I-V.
The pilot will run for six months and cost about $13 million.
It will offer Hepatitis C treatment to people in the middle class who can’t get help through insurance or other options.
The state already provides similar help to people who have been diagnosed with H-I-V.
Prescription drugs like Sovaldi can cure Hepatitis C, but a full course of treatment costs about 84-thousand dollars.
Pennsylvania’s pilot program will be funded after the state discovered private insurance or other government programs should have paid for some drugs in the past.
