Smart Talk: Ellen Hughes tribute; Tough week for Wolf; Campaign finance reform

What to look for on Smart Talk Friday, June 12, 2015:

The Central Pennsylvania arts community and the WITF family lost one of the region’s true icons this week when Ellen Hughes passed away.

From music to theater to art, Ellen’s name will always be associated with Market Square Concerts, Harrisburg Community Theatre and at WITF, her Desert Island Discs programs, New Releases, and the Next Generation Festival.

Appearing on Friday’s Smart Talk to pay tribute to Ellen are two of Ellen’s close friends and coworkers at WITF – another icon himself — Mike Greenwald and Cary Burkett who co-hosted New Releases with Ellen.

WITF Capitol Bureau Chief Mary Wilson returns to Friday’s program with Capitol Week-in-Review.

Among the topics Mary will detail are the state senate rejecting Gov. Tom Wolf’s pick for State Police Commissioner Marcus Brown, even after the governor withdrew the nomination and the possibility of online gaming coming to Pennsylvania.

Finally, campaign finance reform is often thought of as a federal issue but Senate Minority Leader Jay Costa of Allegheny County wants to change that.  Sen. Costa has introduced legislation to put limitations on the amount of money that can be contributed to statewide candidates.

Sen. Costa joins us on Friday’s Smart Talk.
