Harrisburg City Islanders turn to state for money for new stadium
(Harrisburg) — More than a year after proposing a new stadium, the Harrisburg City Islanders are asking for help from the state.
The parent company of the professional soccer team is applying for $5 million in grants from a program geared towards economic redevelopment.
The City Islanders say it’s scheduled to start design work for the estimated $14 million project in July, with construction beginning in May of 2016.
Other midstate projects in the running for the state money include streetscape improvements along Chocolate Avenue in Derry Township, installing wireless internet in the city of Lancaster, and constructing a new building geared towards athletic training at Lebanon Valley College.
