Waze and the Turnpike Team Up for Safer Driving

(Harrisburg) — The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission is teaming up with a crowd-sourcing app to make our roads safer.
The app from Waze Connected Citizens Program lets people on the roadways report what they see, such as severe weather, accidents and construction. It’s a real-time, navigation app with 400,00 users in Pennsylvania.
The turnpike then takes the data reported, verifies it, and sends it back out to keep travelers aware of any hazards.
Traffic Operations Manager Bob Taylor says safety is the main goal of the partnership. “We’re just looking at innovative tools to learn about incidents more quickly and get information out there as well.”
Turnpike officials recommend letting passengers handle the app, not drivers. However the app does come with a hands free feature.
