What to look for on Smart Talk Wednesday, December 31, 2014:

Two of the top stories of 2014 were Democrat Tom Wolf’s election victory over incumbent Republican Gov. Tom Corbett and a renewed, on-going conversation about domestic violence.

On Wednesday’s Smart Talk, we look back at both.

Wolf’s election win over Corbett was not a surprise since the polls showed Wolf with a sizeable lead throughout the year.  But once the votes were counted and Wolf had won, the talk turned to what now?

On this episode of Smart Talk, Franklin and Marshall political analyst Dr. G. Terry Madonna discussed what went wrong for Corbett and the challenges that lie ahead for Wolf, including a massive $2 billion budget deficit.

On the second segment of the program, we go in-depth with Peg Dierkers of the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence and the state’s Victim Advocate Jennifer Storm.

As often happens, it took a high profile case of domestic violence for Americans to discuss it.

The catalyst this year was pro football player Ray Rice.  A video emerged showing Rice punching and knocking his then fiancee unconscious.  The National Football League’s punishment of a two-game suspension for Rice outraged many who saw it as an example of domestic violence not being taken seriously.
