(Harrisburg) — Susquehanna Township School District Superintendent Dr. Susan Kegerise is out.

In a last minute addition to the agenda after a mid-meeting executive session, five board members voted to accept the resignation of Kegerise, with three abstaining.

The resignation in the Dauphin County school district will be retroactive to April 17th. All benefits for Kegerise also ended the 17th, according to interim Solicitor Jeffrey Engle.

The decision earned an outburst of applause from those in attendance.

Kegerise has filed a $6 million lawsuit against the district, claiming racial, sex and age discrimination, and says the board created a hostile work environment.

She had not worked since March 20, using personal leave days, according to Board President John Dietrich.

No member commented on her effective resignation, citing the current legal action.

But in a statement, the board denies Kegerise’s claim of so-called constructive discharge, a legal term that can be characterized as getting fired.

Engle says he interprets lawsuit with such language as a resignation.

The board says two assistant superintendents will take lead the district while the Board searches for a replacement.

Also at the meeting, the board accepted the resignation of one of the assistant superintendent’s charged with picking up duties in the wake of Kegerise’s effective resignation. Cathy Taschner’s resignation will take effect June 7th.
