McCord deflects questions about official campaign bio

(Harrisburg) — Democratic gubernatorial candidate Rob McCord is responding to criticism from his own family. Over the weekend, McCord’sstep brother, Daniel Silver, questioned the candidate’s official

biography, writing that it“obscures thefact” that his biological mother remarried Silver’s dad when McCord was still a kid (his mother remarried in 1971, when McCord was 12 years old).

Silver argues in his letter that McCord “conveniently redacted his Dad from his bio in order to fashion a political persona he deems more likely to win votes.”

McCord’s official biography on his website makes no mention of his father, saying he was raised by a single mother.

Speaking on witf’s Smart Talk, McCord says he’s not trying to change his story to fit a narrative.

“Part of what was sad for me about this is that I’ve spoken glowingly about my stepfather hundreds upon hundreds of times, talked about how I knew the difference between financial security and financial insecurity in part because of what happened.”

McCord never explicitly addressed why his biography does not mention his stepfather.

His campaign has previously pointed to other appearances though when he did mention his stepfather, including an interview with the PennLive editorial board.

“There’s no way that somebody who got to go to one of the best school systems in the country in Lower Merion, who was captain of the soccer team and president of the student body and got substantial financial aid to go to Harvard should say ‘Oh woe is me.’”

The interview on Smart Talk also covered McCord’s proposed tax on natural gas drilling, its impact on the economy, and education funding.
