STFriday: poring over email and open records

What to look for on Smart Talk Friday:

A groundbreaking ruling from the Office of Open Records, last month, may inform legislation to update Pennsylvania’s Right-to-Know law. At issue was an appealed request for the personal information of state employees and retirees.

witf‘s Mary Wilson talks with Office of Open Records Executive Director Terry Mutchler about the decision and its implications.

Meanwhile, Pittsburgh Tribune-Review Capitol Reporter Brad Bumsted has been looking into the deleted email records that Attorney General Kathleen Kane says have been slowing her review of the Jerry Sandusky investigation. Bumsted’s latest article tells us as many as one million records may have been deleted after the interim attorney general changed the agency’s email retention policy in 2011.

Later, we’ll discuss how many emergency rooms are on the front lines of health insurance education and enrollment efforts under the Affordable Care Act. Joining us to discuss what’s happening in their emergency departments will be PinnacleHealth’s Vice President for Mission Effectiveness Barbara Terry and Director for Legal Services John DeLorenzo.

And with temperatures soaring into the 50s this weekend, Matt Paul can’t stop thinking about the upcoming baseball season.

Beyond the Senators, Barnstorms and Revolution — thousands of midstate children will be participating in Little League Baseball this summer. It marks the organization’s 75th anniversary, so we’ll round out the show by discussing some of the special events Little League Baseball has planned with Media Relations Director Brian McClintock.

Anybody can participate in #LittleLeague75 through the Little League Big Legacy project, which we’ll discuss on Smart Talk Friday.
