2014 is off to a frigid start
(State College) — The midstate experienced two major cold snaps in January.
The National Weather Service reports 13 days in which Harrisburg’s low temperature was in the single digits or below. But Meteorologist Mike Dangelo with the National Weather Service in State College says it just missed the top ten coldest January on record.
He says the cold will be sticking around for most of February.
“The Climate Prediction Center outlook for February shows it being below normal temperatures for Pennsylvania and above normal precipitation,” he says.
Dangelo notes ice jams on the Susquehanna aren’t a major concern. A heavy rain or rapid warm-up would increase the risk of such flooding, but neither is in the short-term forecast.
