Snow forecast to start tonight

(State College) — PennDOT plows will be ready to go for the storm expected sometime tonight, with forecasts calling for snow throughout the morning commute.

4 to 8 inches are expected close to the Pennsylvania-Maryland border, with 1 to 3 inches estimated to hit areas north of the Turnpike.

“It looks like this should fall as all snow and it should be a somewhat fluffy snow. We’re expecting temperatures to drop and it’s going to be fairly cold through the event, even down in the lower Susquehanna Valley, we’re only looking for high temperatures in the low 20s,” saysCraig Evanego, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in State College.

Evanego says it’s not going to be the best for snowball fights.

“It’ll be powdery, it may not be the best for packing because it’ll be quite fluffy.”

The storm is expected to start later tonight and last into tomorrow, and could affect the morning commute.

Evanego says he expects it will stay cold throughout the week, which could make cleanup very difficult.

He also says the wind could pick up, blowing the snow around even if its piled up off roadways.

Here are the latest accumulation projections from the NWS:

4 – 8 inches in Adams, Cumberland, Franklin, Lancaster and York counties.

4 – 6 inches in Dauphin, Lebanon and Perry counties.

3 – 5 inches in Juniata and Mifflin counties.

2 – 4 inches in Schuylkill County.
