Midstate candidates vie for attention in crowded gubernatorial field
(Harrisburg) — The field of eight announced Democratic candidates for governor includes a congresswoman, a statewide office holder, a trio of cabinet secretaries under former Governor Rendell and the mayor of Pennsylvania’s third largest city.
But a pair of midstate candidates will be fighting for name recognition ahead of the May primary.
Lebanon County Commissioner Jo Ellen Litz is dismayed that she’s been excluded from several forums so far.
“It shouldn’t be about how much money you have,” she says. “It should be about your background, your experiences in life and what you bring to the table.”
Likewise Max Myers, a pastor and businessman from Cumberland County, is fighting to be noticed in the crowd.
“If we want different results than what we’ve been getting from past political leadership, then we need a different kind of leadership,” he says.
The entire field of eight — including Myers and Litz — will speak at the Penn Ag Democrats’ Farm Show luncheon later today.
