Joseph Capita named interim president of United Way of PA
(Harrisburg) — The former head of the United Way of the Capital Region has been tabbed to serve as interim president of the state nonprofit.
Joseph Capita takes over the United Way of Pennsylvania until a permanent replacement is selected.
He takes over for Tony Ross, who left the organization.
“Transitions bring both, challenges and opportunities,” says UWP Board Chair Leslie Osche, “but we are confident Joe’s experience with, and knowledge of, local United Ways will help us develop an orderly and smooth transition to new leadership.”
Capita served as president and CEO of the capital region’s United Way for 18 years, before retiring earlier this year.Under his leadership the annual campaign expanded from about $5.8 million to over $11.8 million. The organization grew from the sixth largest United Way in PA to the third largest.
The midstate nonprofit also received several four star ratings, the highest possible, from Charity Navigator for organizational efficiency and effectiveness.
The United Way of Pennsylvania represents 60 local United Ways who generate over $185,355,164, making the commonwealth the third largest state country.
