(Carlisle) — Grocery shopping has entered the computer age in the midstate, as stores are expanding their online options.

GIANT Food Stores has launched GIANT Pick Up in four locations. The Carlisle-based grocery chain is partnering with online grocer Peapod to expand on a service already offered at its Camp Hill store.

Spokesman Chris Brand says the new model allows for quicker service.

“Basically they place the order today, and they pick-up their groceries tomorrow,” he explains. “The website is very intuitive. It’s one of the ways that we can provide another option for our very busy customers.”

The GIANT locations on Trindle Road in Camp Hill and Linglestown Road in Harrisburg are part of the rollout. Brand says an attendant will be waiting to load the groceries in the customer’s car when they arrive for pickup.

He adds the company expects to announce more locations for GIANT Pick Up next year.

Sunbury-based Weis Markets offers a similar online service at 15 of its stores, including three in the midstate, and also plans to expand next year.
