What to look for on Smart Talk Friday:

Chief Justice Ronald Castille has been retained for another 10-year term on the state Supreme Court. He received the support of nearly 70 percent of voters on Election Day. But Castille is also closing on age 70, the mandatory retirement age for judges per the state constitution.

A measure to raise the mandatory retirement age to 75 has already cleared both the state House and Senate with bipartisan support. But amendments to the constitution must be passed in two consecutive sessions of the General Assembly before they can be put to the voters for ratification.

Smart Talk Friday will examine the issue and the legislation with the help of Ken Gormley, Dean of the Duquesne University School of Law.

Later, Franklin & Marshall College Poll Director Terry Madonna will join the show to discuss Governor Corbett’s newly-launched re-election campaign. Madonna’s latest poll finds that just one in five voters believes Corbett is doing an “excellent” or “good” job as governor.

We’ll also discuss the financial crisis in the School District of Philadelphia with WHYY reporter Kevin McCorry.

Finally, we’ll have a preview of this weekend’s Harrisburg Marathon. About 1,400 runners will take part in 26.2 mile race this Sunday.

What makes them tick? Find out on Smart Talk Friday.
