Every year, the Governor’s Arts Awards are given to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the arts in Pennsylvania. Each year, the awards ceremony is held in a different location in PA. This year, the event will be at Whitaker Center in Harrisburg on October 22 at 7 pm, when Governor Tom Corbett will present the awards.

Pa First Lady Susan Corbett is the Chair of the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts which administers the awards. She’ll join us on Friday’s Radio Smart Talk to talk about the different artists being honored.

Among the honorees will be the multi-platinum selling rock band LIVE, out of York. Three of the original members of the band, Chad Taylor, Patrick Dahlheimer and Chad Gracey, will also be joining us on Radio Smart Talk. They’ll be talking about their music and their economic development projects which brought them the Governor’s Arts award this year for Arts Innovation.

Other honorees include Jerry Pinkney, a Caldecott Award-winning children’s book illustrator receiving the Distinguished Arts Award; Kathleen Mulcahy and Ron Desmett, husband and wife glass artists who exhibit internationally and are co-founders of the Pittsburgh Glass Center receiving the Artists of the Year Award and Bill and Beverlee Lehr of Palmyra, receiving the Patron Award.
