RST: Lawmakers return to Harrisburg; Top 10 PA artifacts

What to look for on Radio Smart Talk Friday, September 20, 2013:

Pennsylvania legislators return to the state capitol in Harrisburg Monday after their summer recess. It could be one of the most significant late year sessions in years.

Gov. Tom Corbett’s proposed plan to make health insurance available to the uninsured requires legislative approval on several fronts.

Under the plan he outlined earlier this week, the state will accept money from the federal government that is available through the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act or as it is most often called Obamacare. Unlike other states that will expand their Medicaid programs, Corbett wants the money to go to the uninsured to purchase health insurance from private companies.

Lawmakers also will still be dealing with the governor’s Big Three proposals that didn’t see final action when they recessed at the end of June.

Corbett wants money for transportation infrastructure, changes to pensions for retired state employees and educators, and he is looking to privatize the state’s liquor business.
