Bill to call for tougher home invasion penalties
(Harrisburg) — A pair of state lawmakers is drafting legislation to increase penalties for home invasion burglaries.
Senator John Rafferty says existing laws do not distinguish whether force was involved in the crime.
“This is where there’s a real serious threat to a person inside the domicile, or inside the home,” Rafferty explains, “a threat of violence, and a real threat to their safety and well-being.”
The Chester County Republican says the distinction would only apply to home burglaries. Rafferty is working on the bill with Philadelphia Democrat Mike Stack.
It would increase the maximum sentence a judge could order for persons convicted of such home invasions.
