Middletown traffic and water service to be disrupted by relocation of water main

Borough residents and drivers traveling through Middletown on Main Street (State route 230) may experience some inconvenience in coming weeks as crews work on the relocation of a water main near the western end of the Borough.

The work is part of a project involving storm water drain and roadway improvements along West Main Street, west of Nissley Avenue in the vicinity of the Westporte Center and the student apartment buildings in the Eagle Heights section of Lower Swatara Township.

Travelers may experience minor delays in the area while the work is ongoing. There may also be disruptions to water service for customers of the Borough’s water system. The Borough will be installing a new valve in the vicinity which is expected to allow any disruptions in water service to be limited to the Eagle Heights area.

Water in the affected area will be shut off at 8 a.m. on Monday, September 9. Water will be turned back on in the evening after Monday’s portion of the work is complete, but residents in the affected area will be under a boil water advisory. Water will again be shut off at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, September 10, to allow work to be completed.

All affected customers will remain under a boil water advisory following the completion of the work to ensure no bacteriological contamination as a result of the construction. The boil water advisory will remain in effect until water samples test negative for Total Coliform bacteria on two consecutive days after the work is completed. That means the boil water advisory will be in effect until at least Friday afternoon, September 13.
