Two firefighting crews from Pennsylvania returned from Idaho last week where they battled wildfires that have been devastating dozens of forests in the western part of the country.

Dry, hot weather with occasional high winds have whipped up thousands of blazes. Not only has forestland been burned, but a handful of houses have been destroyed and hundreds more are threatened.

On Monday’s Radio Smart Talk, we’ll hear from three of the Pennsylvania firefighters who just returned.

Joining us are Randy White, Su Ann Shupp, and Brad Wendt — all with the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Bureau of Forestry.

Also, new rules for truck drivers go into effect next May that will require them to pass a medical examination conducted by a medical professional who has been certified.

One of the doctors who is training others to become certified talks with with us about the new rules, why truck drivers must maintain their health, the health challenges drivers face, and why it’s important to all motorists on the road.
