(Reading) –Reading is adding to its roster of professional sports teams.

The Major Indoor Soccer League has awarded a franchise to the city that will begin play during the 2013-14 season.

The expansion team’s owner, name and other details will be announced next Tuesday at the Sovereign Center.

“We are very pleased to welcome Reading as a member of the MISL,” League Senior Director Chris Economides said. “As we grow the MISL into new cities, an addition such as Reading, which will be an excellent regional rival for the Baltimore Blast, strengthens the league’s structure and will bring great entertainment to eastern Pennsylvania.”

Reading is the second new franchise, along with St. Louis, set to join the MISL when the new season gets underway in November.

“On behalf of SMG and the Berks County Convention Center Authority we are excited to host the MISL Franchise at the Sovereign Center,” said Zane Collings, SMG Regional General Manager. “We feel the MISL will bring a new and thrilling sporting event to our patrons and look forward to attracting all the soccer fans from the region to our arena.”

The league now feature nine teams.

The city also is home to the AA baseball Reading Fightin’ Phils of the Eastern League and the East Coast Hockey League’s Reading Royals.
