The champion of the witf Central PA Spelling Bee is currently competing in the Scripps National Spelling Bee Preliminary Rounds. Aparajita Rao, a student from St. Joan of Arc School in Hershey, took the written test on Tuesday, May 28th. On Wednesday she took part in Round Two and correctly spelled the word “exacerbate.” She’ll move on to Round Three on Wednesday afternoon.

The Semifinals will take place on Thursday, May 30th at 2pm and the Finals at 8pm. You can catch them live on ESPN.

The Scripps National Spelling Bee is being held at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center near Washington, DC. This year, 281 spellers advanced to the National Spelling Bee. The spellers range in age from 8 to 14 years old.

Just a quick update on the Scripps National Spelling Bee..
Unfortunately our witf champ, Aparajita Rao, will not be moving forward. Although she spelled both words correctly in the Preliminaries, her score on the written test did not qualify her for the final rounds.

Still – what an accomplishment! We hope Aparajita feels proud for making it that far!

If you’re still interested in watching the Bee.. you can see the Semifinals live on ESPN today, Thursday, May 30 at 2pm. The finals will air live on ESPN tonight at 8pm.
