Storm brings winter’s coldest weather to midstate
(State College) — The next few days is expected to bring some of the coldest weather of the season to the midstate, along with a light dusting of snow and sudden wind gusts.
A clipper system that originated in Canada is set to keep temperatures in the 20s for the next few days.
Greg DeVoir, a senior forecaster with the National Weather Service in State College, says the region hasn’t seen a cold front like this one in a few years. “The last few winters have been well above normal, so even anything resembling a normal weather, will feel, and has felt, more severe. So this is the coldest air we’ve seen this season and it may end up being colder than what we’ve seen the last two years.”
DeVoir says wind gusts of up to 35 miles an hour could hit central Pennsylvania over the next couple of days.
He says it’s important for drivers to make sure their tires have good tread, and to keep blankets, a pair of gloves, and food in their cars in case they run into problems and get stranded.
